School-Created/ Teacher-Created Connections

School created websites are very helpful for accessing information such as school calendars, district policies, staff information and community connections. I personally access my school's website for this type of information. It is a quick guide to look up phone numbers, important dates and upcoming events in our school. I find that my particular school-website is informative for general information, but also provides links to teacher-created sites that have specific information such as activities or worksheets based on the curriculum and class.
Not all school sites have this option available. In certain instances where this is not offered, perhaps this strategy of creating a section on the main page is an easy way of connecting school-created and teacher-created sites.

Hello AnnaMaria,
I also use my web page to find out information like parent's emails. It is an easy way for me to email them when ever I need to talk to them. Since I teach the whole school I do not have only 20 parent's emails at my fingers. In the pass I would have to go to the main office and look in a booklet for this information. Now a few simple clicks and the email is way.

Hi, AnnaMaria,
You're right that reminders of upcoming events, monthly calendars and game/sports schedules on the school website are a tremendous help to keep parents, students and teachers all on the same page. I find email communications with parents especially helpful. In the past parents might wait for report card time to discuss a problem--often allowing too much time to elapse before bringing up their concern. With email through our school website, parents let me know of any problems as soon as they observe something. They often can give me a "heads up" about their child in plenty of time to head off potential difficulty.

I really liked the way that you incorporated recipes into your blog, I think that activities that are hands on at home are really great at increasing parent involvement. The students can either go home and make the dish with the help of parents, or make it for the family by themselves and then as they share it the student can tell the family about the things being dicussed in the class. It was a GREAT IDEA!!
